What a Single Metric Tells Us About the Pandemic
What a Single Metric Tells Us About the Pandemic
https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2022/03/covid-excess-mortality.html?
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(21)02796-3/fulltext
NOTE:
What is interesting from the results in the second article, is that countries like Australia and New Zealand had negative excess mortality, ie less people died than normally would during the period of the pandemic.
Very few countries achieved this, and most countires and the world as a whole, showed positive excess mortality, ie more people dies that normally would during the period of the pandemic.
There could be many reasons for this but an obvious contributer would be the controversial long lock-down periods in key populated cities.
One could assume from this that the lockdowns not only stopped the spread of COVID 19 but also reduced the spread of many other diseases that can cause death.
